The Red Door Series

I am about to launch a series of stories that started as The Red Door.

I never planned on writing a part two, or three...now I have just completed Part Six and Seven, which will be the end of the series. But then, who knows, I may come up with new adventures for the characters of the series.

Parts one through five are to be released, one a month, starting the beginning of March. By then I'll have part six and seven edited, and hopefully accepted for publication with my amazing publisher, Crushing Hearts and Black Butterfly Publishing. That way they can be released on the heels of part five.

I guess I should clarify something, part one and two, have a fresh edit, and will have a new cover.

I am hoping part six will tie up the loose ends of one character that was mentioned but never expanded upon. And part seven will expand on a character introduced in part five.

Once all parts have been released, the series will then be available as a hard-copy, novel-length book to be purchased from amazon.

I've decided to call this The Demon Series, with each of the first three installations focusing on a main character and their story. Part four brings forward an old character, and part five has several of the characters coming back.

Part six focuses on the life of a character I hadn't planned to write about, but while working on final edits of part one with my editor, the seed was planted, and I had to run with it and expand on it.

In the first version of The Red Door, I held back on the violence. But with the new version, I have decided to let my imagination take over and got a bit descriptive with the gore.

Just one thing I need to say, in order to know the whole story you need to read to the end of the series.

I hope you enjoy!

5 Stars

I absolutely loved this short paranormal story. We find Jeremy Brogan starting his first night as a security guard at St. Michael’s Hospital, which just so happens to be rumored as being the most haunted hospital in the country. The evening starts out normal for Jeremy, or so it seems that everything is normal, until things begin getting very busy with endless amounts of visitors and he easily becomes overwhelmed. I just loved this story and I was totally pulled into the storyline from the very first page. The characters were very believable and the story flowed seamlessly for me. I also loved the eerie feeling I felt as I was turning the pages. You’ll find that it’s an extremely short story so you won’t have a problem fitting it into your hectic schedule. I highly recommend it and can’t wait to read more from this talented author!

Jeremy Brogan thinks the only thing he’s afraid of is the nervous anticipation of starting a new job. Then again, he is working at the most haunted hospital in the country – or so it’s rumored to be. Once his shift starts, it gets extremely busy for him and he just can’t seem to help all the visitors he comes in contact with. The question remains are those visitors really people needing his help or could they be from another realm trying to scare the daylights out of him?

“Is this your first night?” The old man stood up from his seat. Where he’d been sitting, he could barely see—or be seen—over the counter in front of the desk. He walked around the counter toward Jeremy.

“Yes, it is.” Jeremy fidgeted with the buttons on his jacket. “I suppose it’s obvious. Isn’t it?” Pressing his lips into a grin, he tried to smile. “Actually, I’ve never done anything like this before.”

The old man paused, as though sizing Jeremy up, and then patted him on the shoulder. “You’ll be fine.” He went back behind the counter and retrieved his metal lunch pail.

“By the way, my name is Jeremy Brogan.” Jeremy reached over the counter, offering his hand.

The old man grasped Jeremy’s hand and gave it a firm shake. “Jake Edwards.”

“Say, do you mind me asking how long you’ve been working here?”

“It’ll be forty-two years, next month.”

Jeremy’s brows rose sharply. “Forty-two years?”

“Yep.” Jake nodded. “And not once did I miss a day of work.”

Jeremy rested his elbows on the counter. “That’s incredible.”

“Yeah, I guess it is.” Jake shrugged. “Never really thought about it.” He slid his hand over the smooth, worn surface of the counter, as he walked back around to the front. “I can honestly say, I’m going to miss it.”

“Really?”

“I’m retiring next week.” His brow furrowed, his gaze growing distant. “I’ll tell ya, I’ve been looking forward to this my whole life. Waiting and dreaming about what I’d do when the day came. But now that it’s here…It’s going to feel strange, not coming in here every night.” He shook his head and sighed.

“But, I guess it’s not the end of the world.” Jake grinned. “Tell ya what—” he patted Jeremy on the chest with the back of his hand “—I’ll come back and visit ya. How does that sound?” He stepped to the middle of the hall. “So, have they shown ya everything?”

“Yep. Keep an eye on the security monitors, and once an hour walk the upper floors. I have my walkie-talkie, in case I need to communicate with the main security room downstairs. If a situation does arise, I don’t think I can handle alone, call for additional security.” Jeremy laughed self-consciously. “God, that sounded like I memorized the security manual, didn’t it?”

Jake peered at him over his glasses. “I take it you think you look like a fool, right about now?”

Jeremy smiled. “Pretty much.”

“Hey, it’s the fool that doesn’t prepare. Especially in a job like this.”

“I guess I’m a little nervous.” Jeremy tugged at his collar. “This is the first real job I’ve had.”

“I haven’t met a night watchmen yet, who wasn’t nervous his first night.” Jake smirked. “Well, the good ones, that is.”

“Thanks, I needed to hear that.”

“Don’t thank me.” Jake held up his palm. “When it comes down to it, it will be you and the night.”

Paranormal Short Story

The Fifth Floor

The Fifth Floor

Jeremy Brogan thought being a night watchman at a hospital would be easy, wandering long, dark, empty halls late at night. It might even get kind of boring, after a while...Except Jeremy is working at St. Michael's; the most haunted hospital in the country.

It's a good thing Jeremy doesn't believe in ghosts. Everything he sees and hears must have some kind of and explanation, right?

That he had to patrol the fifth floor was bad enough, but never in his wildest dreams did he think he would end up in the basement. Now all he wants is out...only the hospital, and its inhabitants, have other plans.
